📯“Embodied Relating: CI Meets Tango”
With Irene Sposetti 📯
Somatic explorations of the subtle layers of body mechanics and foundational principles underlying the CI duet partnering dance and the tango embrace. We will practice how to cooperate toward alignment, rooting, and mobilizing, exploring the merging of our bodies and the creative dialectic of encounters with one another.
We will explore ways to refine our states of shared presence and listening, enhancing our ability to creatively embody rhythms and melodies, while acquiring skills to actively “converse musically” with our partners.
Together, we will play with tempo, body textures, touch, and space to develop improvisational scores in relation to music and somatic communication.
This workshop will unfold in two sessions: the first will focus more on the biomechanics of partnering, and the second will concentrate on collaborating in musicality and co-creating dance dialogues

  • ABOUT THE INTENSIVE                    “Somatic Improvisation”

I invite you to join me for a time dedicated to studying and practicing contact improvisation, playing with the idea of somatic improvisation – an art form of physical expression, shared embodied processes, dance dialogues, and instantaneous compositions.

I am deeply passionate about discovering and refining ways to ground ourselves in states of presence, heightened somatic receptivity, and exploration, which serve as the foundation for decision-making while improvising. Throughout our time together, we will engage in individual, partner, and group improvisations to activate and articulate our attention and availability, integrating physical-sensorial awareness with relational movement skills. Additionally, we will delve into creative play, intuition, and somatic imagination as sources of expressiveness and composition, experimenting with sensory words, tactile imagery, space, and other creative elements that arise from our dance.

  • TECHNICAL THEMES

Our practice will center on understanding weight and its organization in the body in motion, as a key element for achieving fluidity and confidence moving on the floor, seamlessly transitioning between levels, and inverted positions, and combining movements in contact with others. We’ll concentrate on exploring technical tools for aerial suspensions, off-ground balancing, and playing with momentum and the trajectories of weight in motion.

We will aim to access the simultaneous presence of stability and mobility, definition, and availability in our movements, as we intertwine our bodies in motion, releasing, rising, and gliding within the breath of gravity.

In addition to physical principles and skills, I will address our ability to collaborate safely and be present when partnering in contact, navigating limiting expectations and patterns that may arise, particularly in interactions with others.

Here are some of the technical themes will approach over the weekend according to the group’s needs and interests: Biomechanics of movement in relation to gravitational force

  • Centre-Axis fluid alignment, weight distribution and modulation of body tones
  • Kinaesthetics of physical forces within and around our bodies, their elemental nature and qualities
  • Core balancing and structural alignment in duet
  • Aerial suspensions
  • Trajectories of weight and space

  • WHO IS THIS FOR?

This invitation is open to movers who are actively engaged in the study of the dance form of contact improvisation, and who already have a foundation in its principles and practice. A container will be created where all attendees will learn together, nourishing each other in the process while receiving specific tools and attention according to their needs.

focus jam sessions

These meetings are meant to support your movement and contact improvisation practice in a shared concentrated and creative space.

This is a time and a space to be, to access your embodied curiosity and authentic expression, a time and a space to play, practice, and investigate, free from expectations.
Meeting yourself and others in a state of awareness and receptivity, co-creating spontaneous and creative physical dialogues.

Focus Jam structure: We start and end together.
We begin by a facilitated short introduction, where possible focuses, intentions, and scores will be offered as starting points for our dance exploration and we unfold in an open space for the practice.
In the end, we will have a Harvesting Circle to observe and share verbally feelings and reflections on the dance.

To support the intention of creating a group journey, we suggest you come on time and avoid arriving once the jam has started. We feed and support the dance floor with presence, participating, at times witnessing and avoiding social chatting till the end of the session.

If you are new to CI and improvisation and wish to get more tools and insights about it, we recommend you to join specially our classes and workshops.

Mondays, Drop-in

Time: 4 to 6,30 pm

Price: 100 pesos
